how to delete iSilo 2.x

introduction

On the Palm OS®, when you use the default application launcher to delete an application, all databases with the same creator ID as the deleted application also get deleted. iSilo™ 2.x uses the creator ID 'ToGo'. iSilo™ 1.x/2.x documents also have the same creator ID, so if you use the application launcher to delete iSilo™ 2.x, you will also delete your iSilo™ 1.x/2.x documents.

The iSilo™ 3.0 application uses the creator ID 'Silo' while iSilo™ 3.x documents use the creator ID 'SilX', so both are different. The change of having the application creator ID be different from the document creator ID avoids the common problem of inadvertent deletion of document databases when the application is deleted. So since the iSilo™ 3.0 creator ID is different from that of the documents it is capable of reading (e.g., the iSilo™ 3.x, iSilo™ 1.x/2.x, and Palm Doc formats), if you delete iSilo™ 3.0, you will not also delete any documents.

description

If you have both iSilo™ 2.x and iSilo™ 3.0 installed on your handheld, then you may wish to delete iSilo™ 2.x if you feel that you no longer need it. This article shows you how to delete iSilo™ 2.x without also deleting the iSilo 1.x/2.x documents installed on your handheld. To do this, you will download a small utility program to your handheld and use it to delete iSilo™ 2.x.

instructions

  1. Download the iSiloUtl.prc program file by clicking on the following link:

Click here to download iSiloUtl.prc (4142 bytes)

Save the file to your hard drive and use the Palm Install Tool to install it to your handheld.

If the above does not work for you, try the zipped copy:

Click here to download iSiloUtl.zip (2581 bytes)

  2. After installing iSiloUtl.prc to your handheld, it should appear in the launcher as shown here with the label iSilo Utilities:

  3. Tap the iSilo Utilities icon to start it. You should then see the following screen:

  4. Read what the screen says and then tap Delete iSilo 2.x.... You are then asked to confirm that you want to delete iSilo™ 2.x as shown here:

  5. Tap Delete. If the utility successfully found a version of iSilo™ 2.x in memory and deleted it, it should present a message telling you so as shown here:

Note: The utility will only be able to delete iSilo™ 2.x if it is in your handheld's internal memory. If you have placed iSilo™ 2.x in flash memory or a removeable flash memory module, then you will need to use whatever utility you used to move it there to delete it from there.

  6. You can now delete the iSilo Utilities program from your handheld using the Delete command in the App menu of the application launcher.
